I am alive!

Yes, I know I’ve been away for 2 weeks, and I’m really sorry. It’s mocks at school at the moment and the workload is KILLER. I’ve only got 6 exams left though, and after that it’s party-time! … and then back to revision for the real things.

There’s lots of things I’d like to tell you about but for now I’ll keep it simple – I AM still around and I WILL be posting things whenever I can.

My last 2 weeks in synopsis:

  • Mocks – obviously. These have mainly gone well, with the exception of sciences and Greek, but I knew that anyway.
  • Rowing – this has got a lot better as my crew has now become a ‘gentleman’s eight’, going out 2-3 times a week and generally having a laugh. We had success at the School’s Head, placing 2nd in our category.
  • Anything else? Not really! I’ve literally had no time at all with mocks, and the time I do get is either spent relaxing or revising.

See you soon!

Just to say…

Just a quick note to say that I’m alive and haven’t forgotten about this blog! I really am snowed under with revision at the moment for mocks, and I need to spend every spare moment working.

I know that I don’t have many readers but I know that I have some, and to them I’m sorry for letting you down. (That grammar doesn’t really work…)

Since I barely have enough time to write posts let alone brainstorm ideas at the moment, it would be really great if anyone who has a topic they want my opinion on (unlikely, but still!) or just something they think I should write about, could leave a comment and let me know. I promise to write a post on any subject you want (as long as it’s not too taboo!)

Again, thanks for supporting me – you know who you are! – and I’ll do my best to repay that with some quality content in the not-too-distant future!

Shitloads of work!

Wow! No sooner did I cross the threshold into my boarding house at school on Sunday than I was bombarded with a ton of work. Firstly, I had to work on a script for the house play, which annoyed me – this house play should really take backseat to GCSE mocks (bold and underlining for mega-emphasis!), and really it should be contracted out to either lower sixth-form or the 1st or 2nd years, who don’t have public exams coming up.

Piles of work

Pah, you call that a lot of work? That's a good night for me...

That was Sunday night, before I’d even had any lessons. Then I received a large Spanish prep (homework), as usual, alongside equally large French and English preps. I wasn’t even able to finish them in the time yesterday, which meant prep rolling over to the next day – never a good thing. Tonight was an equally frantic rush with things left undone.

It’s times like these when I just want to up and leave school, and go home to be an entrepreneur. I reckon I’ve got enough experience in it to maintain a reasonably stable living-income if I was dedicated full-time to it.

What would I (probably) do? Primarily, set up content-rich niche websites, develop them and then either ‘flip’ them for cash or maintain them while receiving ad revenue. I’d also restart my outsourcing business, which really is stable money. After a bit of that, I’d hopefully have enough capital to invest in more adventurous projects, such as iPhone Apps or a properly marketed Web 2.0 site.

Piles of money

A pretty standard day's work. (joke) No wait, I've got GCSEs!

… buuuuuuuut I’m not going to be doing that kind of exciting thing. Instead, I’ll sweat through GCSEs, celebrate (briefly) and then get right on with A Levels. The wonders of childhood, eh?

I’m back! And, I’m back…

I’m back! My loyal band of readers (and I know you exist, though you’re few and far between!) need wait no longer for their voyeuristic fix of what’s occurring in my exam-plagued life (yes, that was a Gavin and Stacey reference).

However… I’m back at school. Mocks are looming large and before them I’ve got punishing rowing and shitloads of revision. As you may be able to tell, I’m not too pleased to be back at school.

It doesn’t help that if you ask me where my half-term went, I honestly couldn’t tell you. Days stuck in front of my laptop screen or the telly, achieving nothing constructive. I did get some work done, but nowhere near enough.

I’m trying to gain and sustain a readership here though, not tell a sob story to anyone who will listen, so I’ll wrap it up. As usual, I have nothing interesting or useful to say.

* By the way, excuse any spelling mistakes. I’ve tapped this whole thing out on my iPod touch, very tedious. Also the reason for the lack of pictures.

Just a quick update…

… to say I’m probably not going to be updating much this week. It’s half-term and I’m getting as much rest as possible – it should follow that I therefore have even more time to write super awesome posts for my multitudes of readers, but it actually turns out that the amount of time I spend writing is inversely proportional to how much time I have.

If you didn’t get that, I love blogging when I’m supposed to be working, because, well, it’s not work. When I’m not really working, I tend to slack off… and I’m sorry! That will change! But maybe not this week…

The sweet nothingness of holidays…

I just love it. There’s nothing better than waking up at 11am, making your way downstairs still in PJs, getting a bowl of cereal and then thinking: “I really don’t have anything I have to do today!”

If I look back at what I’ve done today, I wonder where the day went. I got up at 11, did a bit of revision from 11.30, and then I did some more in the afternoon. What did I do in the spaces in between? Watched telly. Played PS3. Just lazed on the sofa and listened to music. Chatted to my friend on Skype. It’s just such a departure from the rigourous routine of school. There’s no time at school to just laze on your bed and listen to some of your favourite songs.

Revision still hangs over me, though, like a dark cloud. As does the thought that I really ought to get on the rowing machine, and the conflicting thought that I really don’t want to!

Well. I’ll enjoy the freedom and laziness while it lasts, because I know that there’s not going to be much more of it in the next few months. I’ve got mocks two weeks after heading back, and from then on it’s just going to be revision, revision, revision until I’ve thought it so many times the word no longer means anything.

The blogging blues, and half term!

I’m sorry. I’ve been doing my best to post almost daily but this week I’ve had the ‘blogging blues’. Couldn’t think of anything to write about, couldn’t imagine anyone would want to read it. But I’m back, 3 days later, revitalised and raring to go (again). Well, I say revitalised…

Although I’m very much in the mood to tell the world my thoughts right now, I’ve unfortunately done my back in. I don’t even know how I did it, I just know I woke up this morning and couldn’t sit up from pain – I ended up calling my friend in the room next to me to ask him to go find my matron!

It’s got better through the day but I’ve had no lessons and no rowing today. This means it’ll be a weird half-term, as I’ve already tasted that feeling of having nothing to do all day that I’ve been craving for the last 3 weeks, and so I’ll probably get bored quite quickly.

Not to worry, my teachers have packed me full with revision. It seems to be their intention that half term = school as much as possible. The only real difference I see is that I’m at home instead of at school!

Still, I can’t wait. Lazing around for a couple of days will be great, as will the freedom of not having to get up at some ridiculous hour, like 7, or 8. Ridiculous what they make us do.

Exams!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I’ve got my first mock on Tuesday – a mock for my French AS oral (speaking), because I’m taking my AS early. It’s very scary, and it reminds me just how close exams are.

I’m really starting to freak out about them and the mental stress is piling on top of the difficulty of rowing and the ‘daily grind’ to leave me just wanting a rest. Fortunately, it’s half term on Friday, when I’ll definitely get some much-needed rest.

In the meantime, I’m just going to try and get early nights and get work out of the way. Which is why this post has turned out so very short!

ATeenBlogs.com is 1 month old! A brief look back…

Yeah! We I made it! OK, it’s not much of an achievement but I am really chuffed, I feel I’m making real progress with the blog, especially watching visitors rise to the point where I can be confident that a handful of people will read this.

(Mysteriously, the visitor count has dropped over the last two days, but I’m hopeful that will be temporary.)

I kicked off the blog on a snowy January evening, delighted with the news that I wouldn’t be going back to school as planned. Needless to say, this didn’t last long and I was soon bundled back to the ‘institution’, as a friend calls it.

That evening I made my first proper blog post, about the Consumer Electronics Show of 2010. There were some highlights, but nothing really jumped out so I never revisited the topic.

The temperature was still dropping, and rowing was not much fun. To pick up my mood, I made quite a few posts about gaming (too many, in retrospect :P ) and complained about Facebook.

My CX300-II ECO headphones arrived, if you could really describe them that way. A few more personal posts, and a little tutorial about Photoshop.

YouTube Tuesdays were born – great for me as I just posted a few videos I’d been watching that week!

I was starting to get worried that nobody at all was commenting, and then discovered that that was because it was broken. Actually, that wasn’t the reason, it was just nobody could be bothered.

The iPad! I was briefly excited about that before returning to my usual mix of uninspiring posts about my life and technology. And now I’m here.

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty pleased with how it’s gone. I hadn’t expected to be disciplined enough to post 5 times a week (roughly), nor to see modest traffic gains every week. Here’s to next month – above all, hoping for my first comment!

YouTube… Wednesdays? Street music and auto tune

I forgot! I was actually sitting here last night wondering what the hell to write, and ended up with what I reckon was a pretty nice piece about the iPod Shuffle. Little did I know, I had a draft sitting there on my dashboard screaming out at me – alas, the draft’s screams went unheard. That is, until this morning when I suddenly remembered, but by then it was too late. Please don’t get angry.

A very talented street musician. Not only that, but also a pretty good showman, it seems. Intrigued? You should be: catch it after the break.
